Black Purl Sock Pattern : Heel and Foot

Continued from previous post:

“At end of last chart repeat join for working in the round. Work following rib pattern (minus the jolly rogers) for 1 additional round.”

-If using 2 circular needles there should be 35 stitches on each needle.  Rearrange these evenly on both needles so that the back seam is in the middle of one of the needles (this is the heel needle).

*now trust me here: Move 1 stitch from either end of instep needle to the heel needle.

Continue knitting following patt to end of needle.

-Join alternate color of your choice and purl back across this needle evenly to begin heel flap. DO NOT BREAK MC yarn.

-Work in heel stitch for 30 rows (k1 sl1 across right side, purl across wrong side) end on ws row

Turn heel:

sl1, k19, ssk, k1, turn
sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn
sl1, k8, ssk, k1, turn
sl1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn

*continue in this manner until all heel stitches have been knitted

Gusset:

*I threw in an extra circular needle at this point to make it easier to navigate stitches and decreases.  DPN users will probably have an easier time with this as they can separate the sts onto more needles, but it IS possible to continue to work the entire heel/gusset on one circ and the instep on the other*

-Using heel needle: Pick up and knit stitches along heel flap plus 1 in space between heel and instep (to avoid a hole).

-Break alternate color yarn. Knit across instep in rib pattern using MC yarn.

-(Heel needle)pick up and knit 1 st between instep and heel flap.  Pick up and knit stitches along heel flap.

-knit even across bottom of foot

– on next round, where you previously picked up sts, knit through back loops to avoid holes.  Work 1 row even, with instep in rib patt.

Decreases:

round 1- (needle 2: instep should have 34 stitches)Work rib patt across instep.  (Needle 1) k1 ssk,  work even to last three stitches, k2tog k1.

round 2- (Needle 2) p1, k2 p2 rib patt to last stitch, p1, (Needle 1)k to end of round

round 3 – (Needle 2) p1, k2 p2 rib patt to last stitch, p1 (Needle 1) k1 ssk, work even to last three stitches, k2tog k1
Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until  68  stitches remain (34 each needle)
work even on foot until 2 inches shorter than desired length

k even two rounds

Toe:

join color 2 at beginning of needle 1(opposite color from used on heel)
Round 1:k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (repeat on next needle)
Round 2: knit

repeat rounds 1 and 2 this manner until 12  sts remain on each needle

graft toe.

 make a match!

The End~  I hope you enjoyed my first pattern, I’m sure it’s absolutely riddles with problems!  If you find any, please tell me so I can smack my forehead and fix it. Thanks!
